too little homework

Recently, there has quite a few parents complaining that our students have too little homework. As a principle, I maintain that our school give enough homework but that too much homework is harmful to children. First, children should have time to learn in their own environment. It is best for every child to discuss the world by observing and touching. The teacher should tell kids the way to get knowledge, not only teach the knowledge itself. Second, kids should have enough time to play. Through play, they can not only build their bodies, but also broaden their worldview. Children need enough time to sleep, especially during their growing years. We do not want our students to sleep late due to homework. Third, we hope children can use their spare time to do their own interesting things such as reading, drawing, singing, playing musical instruments and sports. We also encourage parents to play games that are benefit to the kids. Of course, there are some students who cannot handle the spare time. We will arrange some programs for them after class next semester. We welcome parents' suggestions.
