Maple syrup is cherish, because it is gotten only when the weather is warm on day and below zero at night in spring. That is the reason why it is more expensive than other syrup. Last week I have a chance to visit Bruce's Mill to see the whole process to make maple syrup. It was an exciting trip, although it was very short. I had promised to buy some syrup made in that mill for my daughter, but the guide told us the machine was just pretending to produce syrup. What a disappointment it is. Even though I had a pretty good trip.

3 Things I Learnt

Here are 3 things I am interested:
1. Before starting a business, we should know whether you require a licence or permit.
2. Enterprise Toronto can provide some FREE services to help people put their ideas into practise.
3.If people would like to run a business from home, he/she ought to get some insurance for business.

environment

This week our theme is the environment which have become more and more popular lately. After paying a huge cost for the polluted environment, including people's lives and money, many governments realize that it is vital to resolve all kinds of pollution and pay more attention to the environment. In addition, people have begun to be environment friends and called for the protection of wildlife.
It is reported that a wide range of animals and plants have become extinct because of hunting or cities’ expending. Although there are reservations built here and there all over the world, the situation is not well. The majestic bruin (a kind of bear) is now only seen as an image on the state’s flag in California for it has disappeared. The grizzly bear faces the same fate in Canada if we do not take steps to protect it strongly. On the other hand, people should stop thinking that wearing fur is more fashionable. That will save many bears’ lives. Besides, we could save our environment.

We all know what too much steak and sausage can do to our waistlines. Nobody likes going up in size. But suffering from obesity is another problem all together.

too little homework

Recently, there has quite a few parents complaining that our students have too little homework. As a principle, I maintain that our school give enough homework but that too much homework is harmful to children. First, children should have time to learn in their own environment. It is best for every child to discuss the world by observing and touching. The teacher should tell kids the way to get knowledge, not only teach the knowledge itself. Second, kids should have enough time to play. Through play, they can not only build their bodies, but also broaden their worldview. Children need enough time to sleep, especially during their growing years. We do not want our students to sleep late due to homework. Third, we hope children can use their spare time to do their own interesting things such as reading, drawing, singing, playing musical instruments and sports. We also encourage parents to play games that are benefit to the kids. Of course, there are some students who cannot handle the spare time. We will arrange some programs for them after class next semester. We welcome parents' suggestions.

This week our theme is Canadian government. The theme is very important for us newcomers. We should know the profile of our new environment. If we want to live in this new environment successfully, first of all, I think we should find our place in it. Our knowledge of western politics had focused on USA, but I do not know much about Canada. I want to know more about Canada.
It was very difficult for me to listen to today's video. I have listened it twice, but I don't understand the meaning at all. I should study harder.

my new hobbies

We have been in Toronto for 5 months since coming here in August. I was happy that our whole family lived in together again. I have picked up some new hobbies. I have invited my friends to my home many times. I also cooked for them, which I had never done before. I would always invite my friends to a restaurant in Tianjin for I was not a good cook. But I was not shamed of my cooking,I have learnt some recipes from the Internet and I was glad to show off my creations to my friends. We ate, tasted and discussed. They taught me the tips and we shared the recipes. I am now a good cook, I think. I have changed a lot the way I do shopping. I always read the newspapers to find what items are discounted and where the market is located. It is interesting. I am satisfied after I do shopping and carry some bags home. But whenever I show my husband how much I saved, he would point out which thing I bought have gone bad because I neglected it for a long time. Then he would tell me not to buy too much. I know it, but it is difficult to control when I go shopping. I had studied English for a long time in Tianjin, but my speaking is not good enough. Now I study in LINC. I have learnt some songs, and I hope to learn more. I like this means of study.
